Unique Flooring Options For Your Master Bathroom Remodeling Project

Blog

If you are remodeling your master bathroom and have been struggling to find a flooring option that you like, then you have come to the right place!

Here are three unique bathroom flooring ideas for your consideration:

Concrete Bathroom Flooring

If you live in a one-story home that was built on a concrete slab, then you might be surprised to learn that you can use the existing concrete as the flooring for your master bathroom.

To use the slab as your new bathroom floor, your contractor will need to first remove any existing flooring. Any glue from vinyl will need to be stripped-off using a special concrete cleaning product. Additionally, any tack strips from carpeting will need to be removed as well.

Once the concrete has been returned to its original state, then it can be stained. Concrete is stained with an acid-based concrete stain that comes in a wide variety of colors and finishes. Once it has been stained, then the surface can then be polished to a shine, or left with a matte finish. A shiny finish is easier to keep clean, while a matte finish is better to prevent slip and fall accidents on the floor.

Concrete floors are very simple to care for, requiring just a simple mopping with a mild detergent solution every week to keep clean.

Glass Tile Bathroom Flooring

If you are looking for an environment-friendly solution for your new bathroom floor, you should check-out the new recycled glass tiles on the market. The tiles are made from recycled consumer glass, and they come in a wide variety of colors and styles. There are even some tiles that will change colors when the temperature changes in your bathroom!

Recycled glass bathroom tiles come in both a glossy and matte finishes. The glossy tiles are best used on the walls, shower surround, and back splash areas. The matte finish tiles are the best option to use on your bathroom floor because they are not as slippery when they get wet.

Glass tiles are easy to clean with a simple glass cleaning solution.

Bamboo Bathroom Flooring

Bamboo is a wonderful flooring option for all homes. Bamboo is very environment-friendly as well due to its quick growth cycle.

Bamboo floors are nice in bathrooms because they are nearly indestructible and can tolerate the moist environment in your bathroom. Additionally, bamboo is a plant which is naturally resistant to bacteria, mold and mildew. This means that your bamboo floors will not promote bacterial or fungal growth in your bathroom, the way other wood products can.

Bamboo floors are warm on your feet and should be cleaned weekly with a simple detergent solution.

Conclusion

Selecting just the right flooring for your new master bathroom is a very important decision. By working with a local flooring contractor, you will ensure that your new master bathroom flooring will look fabulous for a long time to come.

Double Up: Bunks Beds as a Small Room Solution

Having to place children's furniture in a small bedroom presented a problem for me. With two growing kids, I needed a dresser to accommodate both boys, as well as two beds. With two beds, desk and chair, toy chest and floor lamp, the room seemed overly crowded. My solution came with a highly functional bunk bed. Bunk beds take up minimal space. Better yet, my choice was a bunk that included a storage drawer. This compartment is used for storing the boys' small toys and other necessities. I didn't have to have a separate toy chest, so I reduced clutter which was great! When you have multiple children all in one room, you need all the help you can get!
