Essential Services For Having A Healthy And Great Looking Lawn

Home & Garden Blog

To keep your lawn healthy and looking great, you need to eliminate threats and increase the health of your grass. However, before you do any type of work, you need to know which services will be the most beneficial for maintaining a healthy lawn.

Weed Control

Weeds can be detrimental to your lawn, because they take water and nutrients away from your grass, flowers, bushes and trees. If you do not feel like pulling each weed by hand, you need to know which weed killers will be best for your yard.

For example, pre-emergent weed killer is a good option to use before the growing season starts. This chemical kills weeds before they germinate, which means the chemical will not harm existing plant life. Using a pre-emergent spray on your lawn will allow you to deal with the weeds before they can take over your yard.

If it is later in the season, you will need to use a post-emergent herbicide to deal with the weeds. It is important to note that many of these herbicides are non-selective and the chemical will kill any plant life it touches, which includes your grass and flowers.

To avoid excessive damage to your yard, it is best to have a professional spot treat your property. This means the lawn care specialist will spray each weed or use an herbicide that kills specific weed species. By hiring someone to handle the weed control for you, you do not have to worry about accidentally killing your lawn when trying to rid your property of weeds.

Balancing the pH Levels

Another problem you can encounter is an issue with the pH levels of your soil. Your soil needs a specific pH level to promote healthy grass. The pH scale for most lawns is 1-14, though a 7 is typically neutral.

However, not all grass species require the same pH level. For this reason, you need to identify the type of grass you have and then research the perfect pH level for that species.

You can buy kits that help you test the soil, so you know if your grass needs more acid or alkaline additives to be healthier. To raise the pH level, lime is the most common option, while granulate sulfur is used to lower the level. Before you add any chemicals to your lawn, you do need to make sure that you use the correct amounts, since using too much can have a negative effect on your grass.

If the chemical process seems a little daunting, a lawn care specialist can help you the first time. These individuals can explain the testing process and help you correct the pH levels. With their help, you can expect to have a lush, beautiful lawn that you can be proud of.

Double Up: Bunks Beds as a Small Room Solution

Having to place children's furniture in a small bedroom presented a problem for me. With two growing kids, I needed a dresser to accommodate both boys, as well as two beds. With two beds, desk and chair, toy chest and floor lamp, the room seemed overly crowded. My solution came with a highly functional bunk bed. Bunk beds take up minimal space. Better yet, my choice was a bunk that included a storage drawer. This compartment is used for storing the boys' small toys and other necessities. I didn't have to have a separate toy chest, so I reduced clutter which was great! When you have multiple children all in one room, you need all the help you can get!
