Three Ways To Use Wallpaper

Home & Garden Blog

Wallpapering one of the rooms in your home can be a simple way to augment its appearance. This is a home improvement project that you can take on yourself, even if you don't have any prior experience. A local home supply store will sell the equipment that you need, and you can talk to a wallpaper expert on staff to get tips for approaching this job. When many people think about wallpapering, they picture using one type of wallpaper to cover the wall from floor to ceiling. This is a popular option, but it's not the only way for you to proceed. Here are three other ways to use wallpaper.

Half Wall

If you feel that wallpapering an entire wall might change the look of the room too much, one option is to wallpaper just half of the wall. A lot of people apply wallpaper from the bottom of the wall to about the wall's midway point. Provided that you paint the top half of the wall in a color that complements the wallpaper — you'll want to do the painting before you install the wallpaper — you'll end up with a stylish look. One option is to use a piece of wooden trim along the top edge of the wallpaper so that it doesn't fray.

With A Border

When you shop for rolls of wallpaper, you'll also see wallpaper borders available for sale. Lots of borders are designed to complement certain types of wallpaper, so it's easy to choose wallpaper and a border that work well together. When you bring a border into the mix, you have all sorts of options to consider. One idea is to wallpaper the entire wall but add a border toward the top of the wall or at the midway point. The addition of the border can offer more style than the wallpaper on its own.

Two Wallpaper Types

If you're shopping for wallpaper and you find that there are two patterns you really like, consider whether they might work well together. If so, there are a few options that you can consider. One idea is to cover the upper half of the wall with one type and the bottom half with the other type. Painted or stained wooden trim where the two sheets of wallpaper meet can dramatically transform the look of the room and make it a place that you're excited to visit. Double Up: Bunks Beds as a Small Room Solution

Having to place children's furniture in a small bedroom presented a problem for me. With two growing kids, I needed a dresser to accommodate both boys, as well as two beds. With two beds, desk and chair, toy chest and floor lamp, the room seemed overly crowded. My solution came with a highly functional bunk bed. Bunk beds take up minimal space. Better yet, my choice was a bunk that included a storage drawer. This compartment is used for storing the boys' small toys and other necessities. I didn't have to have a separate toy chest, so I reduced clutter which was great! When you have multiple children all in one room, you need all the help you can get!
