Choosing Window Treatments For Your Home

Home & Garden Blog

The window treatments that you have in your home will be an important part of the interior design. However, many homeowners may not have a solid appreciation for the types of factors that they will have to consider in order to choose the right window treatments for their home's interior.

You Will Need To Consider The Amount Of Light That Enters Through The Window Treatments

At the start of the process of choosing window treatments, you will need to decide on the amount of light that you are wanting to enter each room. There are some areas where you may want to be able to completely block out the sunlight, such as entertainment rooms. By determining the amount of light to enter, you can better narrow down your options when you are shopping for these treatments. For example, you may be able to decide whether blackout curtains or sheer options will be a better match for the room.

Window Treatments With Multiple Layers May Provide Increased Flexibility

Having a lot of flexibility in terms of the amount of light that the window treatments are allowing into the room can be a critical factor to assess when you are making this purchase as it will allow you to easily adjust the amount of light that is entering through the windows. To this end, you may want to opt for window treatments that use multiple layers. Furthermore, many of these window treatments may have one or more sheer layers, which can allow for large amounts of diffuse light to enter.

Drapery Should Avoid Touching The Floor

Whenever you are buying draperies for your windows, making sure that they are a suitable length may require you to measure the height from the top of the windows to the floors. Ideally, the drapes should avoid coming into direct contact with the floors as this could lead to them becoming extremely dirty and dusty. As a result, this would force you to have to wash these window treatments far more frequently, which could be a hassle as well as cause significant wear to the fabric that was used in the drapes.

Choosing new window treatments for your home can provide your interior with a fresh look while also offering you considerable benefits in terms of the amount of control that you will have over the light that is entering through the windows. For a homeowner that is currently shopping for new window treatments, being aware of the need to determine the light requirements for the room where they will be placed, considering window treatments that are flexible when it comes to the amount of light that they let in and properly sizing drapes can help them to make good choices for their house.

Double Up: Bunks Beds as a Small Room Solution

Having to place children's furniture in a small bedroom presented a problem for me. With two growing kids, I needed a dresser to accommodate both boys, as well as two beds. With two beds, desk and chair, toy chest and floor lamp, the room seemed overly crowded. My solution came with a highly functional bunk bed. Bunk beds take up minimal space. Better yet, my choice was a bunk that included a storage drawer. This compartment is used for storing the boys' small toys and other necessities. I didn't have to have a separate toy chest, so I reduced clutter which was great! When you have multiple children all in one room, you need all the help you can get!
