4 Interior Design Tips For Your Living Room

Home & Garden Blog

Interior design is an incredibly important part of making your house feel like a home. The living room in particular is a place where friends and family will congregate and it's important that the room has a welcoming and lively feel.

Decisions can often become overwhelming during the process of interior design, however, there are some basic steps you can take to make the living room stand out and make the space an enjoyable one to be in. Consider these four steps when thinking about how you want the space to feel, and don't be afraid to get creative with the ways you apply each step. Decorate your room with the things that are most important to you and your house will surely feel like a home.

Install curtains

Curtains can create a dramatic transformation to the interior design of your living room or bedroom, as well as serving as a great tool to help block out incoming light. Hanging your own curtains is a basic job that you can do yourself and requires minimal tools and time. Choose something with color and it will add wonderful warmth to your room. Depending on the style you're going for, choose curtains that match the feel of the room.

Decorate your walls

The walls are one of the most important elements of any room, especially the living room. Put them to good use with paintings, pictures of friends and family or even a simple mirror. These will help to fill an empty space and liven up the room a great deal.

Add some color

The addition of painting a wall or going with a select color theme will drastically alter the feel of your space. Red, for example, will help to give the space a sense of vibrancy and energy, and will invoke a feeling of passion in the room. Yellow will bring the element of sunlight to your room and will create feelings of joy. Choose your color wisely as it will have a great effect on the space.

Stick with the style

When considering your interior design, it is important that you stick with one kind of style. If you want your room to have a modern feel, then make everything in that room modern. Don't put a rustic, old wooden coffee table in a room that is decorated in modern accessories. Likewise, don't hang a chrome painting or mirror on the wall when the rest of the room is decorated with a wooden feel. Focus on one style and the space will come together nicely. Double Up: Bunks Beds as a Small Room Solution

Having to place children's furniture in a small bedroom presented a problem for me. With two growing kids, I needed a dresser to accommodate both boys, as well as two beds. With two beds, desk and chair, toy chest and floor lamp, the room seemed overly crowded. My solution came with a highly functional bunk bed. Bunk beds take up minimal space. Better yet, my choice was a bunk that included a storage drawer. This compartment is used for storing the boys' small toys and other necessities. I didn't have to have a separate toy chest, so I reduced clutter which was great! When you have multiple children all in one room, you need all the help you can get!
