How To Find A Mattress You'Ll Be Happy With For Years

Blog

Buying a mattress is not something you should take lightly. A good, high-quality mattress can easily reach into four figures, and that means it's a significant investment that you'll want to last for many years. With that said, here are some tips to keep in mind in order to ensure that you get a high-quality mattress that you can rest well on now and in the future.

Figure Out the Right Size First

When purchasing a new mattress, your first consideration should be to figure out just how big or small you want your new bed to be. Do you simply want to replace your current mattress with one of the same size and re-use your existing box spring and frame? If so, then you already have your answer.

But if you are willing to also invest in a new frame and box spring, this could be an opportunity to either downsize or upsize your bedroom experience. If you've always felt a bit cramped, maybe it's time to go from a queen to a king. If you've always felt like your king bed is taking up all the space in your bedroom, going back down to a queen can give you more room to walk around and be comfortable.

Firm From One Brand Might Not Be the Same From Another Brand

Mattresses are often rated as being different levels of soft or firm. The problem though is that the mattress industry as a whole doesn't follow any specific guide across the board when coming up with these ratings. Every brand has their own scale for what qualifies as firm or extra firm, in other words. So if you test drive one "firm" bed from one brand, don't assume that any other "firm" bed from another brand is going to feel the same.

Whenever Possible, Take a Test Drive

Because of the differences in how different brands rate the firmness of their mattresses, it really is a good idea to take a test drive in a local mattress store if you can. It's true that the coronavirus has made in-store shopping a little bit different, but some brick and mortar mattress stores are still open for business. Mattress store owners know that the "test drive" is an important part of the buying experience and they are all taking steps to ensure a safe in-store experience during the pandemic.

For best results, contact a local mattress store today and go in to check out what's available.

Double Up: Bunks Beds as a Small Room Solution

Having to place children's furniture in a small bedroom presented a problem for me. With two growing kids, I needed a dresser to accommodate both boys, as well as two beds. With two beds, desk and chair, toy chest and floor lamp, the room seemed overly crowded. My solution came with a highly functional bunk bed. Bunk beds take up minimal space. Better yet, my choice was a bunk that included a storage drawer. This compartment is used for storing the boys' small toys and other necessities. I didn't have to have a separate toy chest, so I reduced clutter which was great! When you have multiple children all in one room, you need all the help you can get!
