Why Add A Sunroom To Your Home?

Home & Garden Blog

Home renovation can allow you to tailor your house to your preferences. Repainting the walls is an easy way to spruce things up, but sometimes more intensive renovations are required. When thinking about redesigning your house, you may want to consider building a sunroom. Sunrooms are designed to take advantage of natural sunlight through large windows and skylights. A sunroom is an excellent household addition that the whole family can enjoy. Here are four reasons to add a sunroom to your home:

1. Enjoy your garden without worrying about insects

Sunrooms feature large windows on all four walls, which offer an unobstructed view of your backyard or garden. Spending time in your sunroom is an excellent way to enjoy blooming flowers and lush greenery without worrying about outdoor pests. Sunrooms can be especially helpful for people who live in areas with large mosquito populations. You won't have to worry about itchy bites or stinging insects when you relax in your indoor sunroom.

2. Increase your vitamin D intake

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient that protects your bones, stabilizes your mood, and bolsters your immune system. If you don't spend much time outside, you may not be getting enough vitamin D. Fortunately, a sunroom can make it easy to increase your vitamin D intake. According to Harvard Health Publishing, as little as 10-15 minutes of direct, daily sun exposure can allow your body to generate sufficient vitamin D. You can easily spend that time reading or relaxing in your sunroom on comfortable furniture.

3. Enjoy the view of the stars at night

You aren't limited to enjoying your sunroom only during the day. Sunrooms can also provide an excellent view of the evening sky. Many sunrooms feature glass ceilings that allow people to stargaze effortlessly. If you or your children are aspiring astronomers, you can relax in your sunroom and try to spot constellations. Watching the constellations change throughout the seasons can be a fun and enjoyable bonding experience for your entire family.

4. Gain a beautiful room where you can entertain guests

Finally, a sunroom is a wonderful place to entertain guests. A beautiful, sunny room can be the perfect setting for reconnecting with friends and family members. You can even serve meals in your sunroom to make dinner parties truly special. You may find that your family members and friends become interested in building sunrooms of their own once they experience yours.

Keep these tips in mind when looking to build a sunroom addition for your home.

Double Up: Bunks Beds as a Small Room Solution

Having to place children's furniture in a small bedroom presented a problem for me. With two growing kids, I needed a dresser to accommodate both boys, as well as two beds. With two beds, desk and chair, toy chest and floor lamp, the room seemed overly crowded. My solution came with a highly functional bunk bed. Bunk beds take up minimal space. Better yet, my choice was a bunk that included a storage drawer. This compartment is used for storing the boys' small toys and other necessities. I didn't have to have a separate toy chest, so I reduced clutter which was great! When you have multiple children all in one room, you need all the help you can get!
